Hi lena,

your english sounds absolutly perfect to me and indeed you have a really wide vocab, I admire.

Your question, I would have posted it in the secton "small talk.."
As far as I know, "Instructor" is used by gym, he/she is not teaching, they are guiding you through...
bye

Hi kissedlove,

meanwhile I have come to the same conclusion. What most schools do wrong is to teach textbook English, a lot of vocabulary - single words and a general translation - but you never feel when to use the word in an appropriate context.

Yes, the good-graders had been at a loss whilst listening to native speakers. I also read a lot of books, got a wide vocabulary, even understood the radio programme quite well. But I couldn't speak simple sentences myself. First I couldn't believe it. I mean, I learned and learned...

The other day I found a good advise from a native speaker and English teacher. He prefers ministories in question and answer style. Also he tells the same story in the present tense, then present perfect, past and even in the future tense. While listening you get a much more natural feeling... I've tried it a for short time - well, maybe I found a good method. We'll see...

Happy New Year to you

Lena

Hi Lena,

you are so right. I remember my graduation trip with our English teachter to Scotland Edinburgh, we kids stayed with host families. And guess what, those who had really good grades of us didn't say a word.

I figured out, the best way I learn a language is to talk and hear, I always keep the whole sentence in mind and use it whenever I think it fits in. I am not good in learning vocab.
(anymore);-))

Happy New Year!

Hello Marie,

I see you are a woman who knows what comes first in life! You won't put the cart before the horse ;-)

As for no practice: I'm that way, too.

I still remember my English teachers at school. They could have been medalled with "Crashing bores". They were much of a muchness. So many excercises, but no one of us could speak one fluent sentence.

Here we can learn and share.

Happy New Year!

Lena

Dear Marie,

thank you very much for your posting here.
I don`t think those are dreams:-)))
Just write as often as possible and soon you`ll see how your English improves.
Ignore all those grammar rules first - the most important thing is to be understood.
And I got your message!
Happy days and a good year!
Mark

Hello everybody,
Almost done with christmas shopping, I think it's time to do something different the next few minutes and of course not thinking about all the possibly forgotten things. ;-))

Here I am, Marie, old...49 decades away from the time I had a teacher who tried to taught a good english. Sorry for every mistake and wrongly used grammar. I have two grown up daughters and two dogs, and at least a husband ;-))) I am Assistant, but unfortunately it's only once in a while on the sudden I have to talk in english or write an email in english, and this kills me.

So I have nearly no practice, that's why I hope by reading your contributions here and by answering I will learn and become a better writer and speaker...Dreams...

I wish a very peaceful christmas and a healthy, happy new year!
Take care everybody
