Well, everybody should have at least one icon in life.
I am not a person - I am a personality. A flamboyant personality.
It is not a joke when I say that there is one God on this planet. Then Barbra Streisand and then me.
I really mean every word of it.
But we all have our doubts, fears and questions and in those moments we need someone who encourages us to continue.
For you it might be Vladimir Lenin, Mao Tse-tung, Margaret Thatcher or Virginia Woolf.
I identify myself with Barbra Streisand.
Hers was not a privileged childhood. Neither was it a happy one. Nor mine. I was physically and mentally abused.
She is a cross between a washerwoman and a princess.
I am a cross between a lumberjack and a prince.
I am pretty coarse and low. I am vulgar and ignorant. I am hoggish and sophisticated, elegant and then controlled again. Like Barbra Streisand.
In other words - I can appeal to everybody.
Like Streisand I am fearsome and fearless. Many people dislike me largely on account of my niggling insistence on getting everything absolutely right.
I am known to have argued persistently over a lot of things and if someone was not able to cope with a simple thing - may it be making tea - I suggested that I might be better making tea myself.
Like Streisand. She had rows with everybody and then she decided to direct a film herself.
She is haughty and arrogant. So am I.
And then - there is a constant need to be loved and admired. Unfortunately one person will never do.
Last week my therapist said to me: "But four million viewers saw you on TV and they admired you. Why do you need them to love you? Why don`t you love yourself?"
Barbra Streisand has a similar problem.

Who`s your icon, dear Readers?
